How do I find a replacement keyboard for my HP Envy 17t Touch laptop? PartSurfer is not helping me: the SKU on the order form (I ordered direct from HP) is P4B22AV_1. There is no "service tag" anywhere on my laptop. How do I get any parts info about my laptop? Thanks, John

Its in the 17t-s000 series so here is the Service Manual:

You are going to run up against modern laptop construction. That is, the keyboard is embedded in the top cover and HP only sells the keyboard as part of the whole top cover. You might find eBay sellers who offer just the keyboard but removing the keyboard from the top cover is hard to do and the Manual does not say how.

There are multiple possible parts: US vs. Canada and backlit or non-backlit. Which of these do you need?

Thanks, yes it is difficult to replace an internal keyboard on a laptop! I've done it before successfully a couple years ago and found some videos online to step me through it. If I can find a relatively inexpensive replacement part (like $20), I'll give it a shot. But if I can only find expensive solutions, I might as well buy a new laptop. This model does not include a backlit keyboard, but I'd love to put one in unless that overly complicates the procedure. I'm in the US.

Thanks, John

Backlit US keyboard:

For use in the United States 835867-001

The motherboard will have the zif socket for the backlight cable so it is not more complicated to install the backlit version.

HP does not have the top cover. I found this on eBay:

And this which is just the keyboard so you have to pry the old one out of the top cover and perhaps melt some plastic fasteners:

So much for the backlit. Non-backlit:

For use in the United States 835866-001

HP has this but you will not like the price:

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Thanks for the tips and the links. The HP Parts link did not work. But what do you think of this, which looks exactly like my keyboard:

Do you know what model my Envy 17t notebook is?

Thanks, John

It just comes up as a 17t-s000 model which is a Custom to Order SKU.

That is most decidedly not your keyboard. Its for a much older model that has a separate keyboard part. Keyboards look like keyboards so you cannot go on appearance.

Look, are you going to let me help you or are you going to go off on your own? I am happy to do as much or little as you want.

Try this link to HP Parts Store. If you just get the search box put in the part number:

Thanks...I'm not going rogue! I had found that other keyboard before I posted my question here, and was trying to figure out if it would fit or not.

So, it looks like my option is spend $20 or $50 to get the backlit part, with the $50 top cover including more components (such as the touch pad) and hopefully being easier to install? Hmmmmm. You're right, the top cover in the HP parts store is getting a little pricey for this "experiment".

Thanks,

John
