I am trying to determine the age of my laptop computer, as I am experiencing vertical lines and flickering on my display at start-up...deciding whether to repair it or purchase a new laptop.

Your laptop is from the 2016 model year and  it was shipped with Windows 10.

 

My reference source- The Maintenance & Service Guide, software and driver downloads and the User guide

You can also check the system information dialog. Type in system information while logged in and then click on the system information icon that appears above.

 

I would not put any money into repairing it.

 

It is time to consider sourcing something more recent.
