I installed a brand NEW drive, SSD, in my NEW laptop since the SSD that came with the laptop was only 500GB. Since Windows caused some problems with my photo-editing programs after linking the plugins to One Drive (long story), I decided to start over and reinstall Windows 11 (Home version). After the re-installation I started receiving a Windows error message saying my external drive wasn't recognized. . .so after reinstalling the drivers (from HP) and that not helping, I decided to run the HP Diagnostic test. And, it said the SSD had failed the short and the long test. My laptop has not been moved from my desk so I am not sure exactly what happened, just wondering how to fix it.
Is it best to start over and re-install Windows again in hope that will correct it? (Paul_Tikkanen)

I would contact the manufacturer of the SSD, let them know the drive test report you are getting and see what they say about it.
No doubt the drive is under warranty, and if they concur the drive has an issue, you can get an RMA, mail the drive back and they should mail you one upon receipt of the defective one.

Hi:
You can try that (now that you are an expert installing W11 with a local account), but my fear is your brand-new SSD had suffered a hardware failure and needs to be RMA'd for a replacement.
Normally those diagnostic tests produce a 24-character failure ID code, which you can enter at the link below along with your notebook's product number, and it will provide a general description of the problem and the probable way to fix it.

Paul_Tikkanen, I will run the tests again because all I remember seeing is a PASS ID number and that was only 15 numbers. So I don't think those had anything to do with an actual FAILURE "ID" number like you mentioned, but obviously I could be wrong. Here are those 2 numbers that I got captured at some point, but there may have been more that I failed to notice. Only the five middle numbers vary below.
PASS ID: 22856-53112-64754
PASS ID: 22856-54210-64754
Obviously I will pay closer attention after running the tests again.

Since there is data plus Windows on the SSD now, what would be the best means of wiping all of that before I reinstall Windows? I have formatted a HHD in the past but never a SSD. And I think a CLEAN install would be best to try at this point.

When you get to the part of the installation that asks 'where do you want to install Windows, delete every partition on the drive leaving just one partition of unallocated space.
Click Next, and W10 will automatically partition and format the drive.
The cloud recovery tool will also do that for you if you want to retain the original HP factory image.

I went ahead and re-installed Windows and immediately did a diagnostic test on the hard drive and the same "warning" is still there. I sure thought I saw the word FAILED (for test results) previously but now it's the word WARNING for the results. That does mean the SSD is defective, right?
I purchased the SSD from Best Buy and just now checked the return period; it expired July 29! AUGH!! I had ordered the SSD on July 14 but the new laptop didn't arrive until around July 22, and obviously I am just now realizing this problem. I NEVER would have thought I would have a problem with a "new" SSD!
