Your service manual (page 2) states your model comes with an M.2 slot and HP offers up to 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSDs.
Basically, M.2 NVMe SSDs have no size limit. You can install a 1 TB, 2 TB or more.
[Edit]
If your model came with a 16 GB Intel Optane memory, you can remove the Optane from the M.2 slot and install a regular NVMe M.2 SSD, but before doing that you need to open the Intel Optane management software in Windows and disable the Optane and then go to F10 BIOS setup and check to see if you need to disable Optane in BIOS, and after that you can safely remove the Optane module and install an NVMe SSD.
