Hard drive "imminent failure". Have recovery thumb drive, but not sure how to physically remove/reinstall. NOTE: Have NEVER had a hard drive fail in 14 months!!!

Hi,
If you look on page 30 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive. You need a 2.5" Sata drive (7mm thickness). You could also opt for an SSD which would increase the performance of your PC.

Once you have installed the new drive you can use recovery drive you have created or perform a clean install by downloaind the media creation tool from Microsoft, running and creating a bootable USB drive with Windows 10 on it. You could make this drive before removing the old drive, as you need a working computer to create the USB drive.

Windows 10 will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet as long as you install same version (home or pro)
