Here’s how you can return an unopened HP laptop: HP Official Return Policy
- Return Window: Most HP products purchased from HP.com can be returned within 30 days of delivery.
- Condition: The laptop must be unopened or in like-new condition, with all original packaging and accessories.
- Authorization Required: You need a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) before sending it back.
- Restocking Fee: HP reserves the right to charge up to a 15% restocking fee for opened, non-defective items. For unopened laptops, this usually does not apply.
- Shipping: HP provides a prepaid shipping label for returns initiated through their portal.
Steps to Return Your Laptop
- Start the Return Online
- Go to HP.com returns & refunds | HP® Official Store and click Start a Return.
- Enter your order details and reason for return.
- Get Your RMA and Shipping Label
- HP will email you a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and a prepaid FedEx label.
- HP will email you a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and a prepaid FedEx label.
- Pack the Laptop
- Place the laptop and all accessories in the original packaging.
- Attach the shipping label to the box.
- Ship It
- Drop off at a FedEx Office or schedule a pickup.
- Keep your receipt for tracking.

Thank you for reaching out! If your HP product is still in its original sealed box, there’s no need to open it just to find the serial number.
Serial Number Location:
You’ll usually find the serial number (S/N) and product number (P/N) printed on a white sticker label on the outside of the box, typically near the barcode.
About Repackaging:
If you’re returning or shipping the product and it’s still sealed, you do not need to place it in another box, unless your shipping carrier specifically requests it or you’d like extra protection during transport. If it’s already opened, then we recommend securely repacking it with padding or its original materials to prevent any damage in transit.
