My camera button on the keyboard suddenly stopped. It was fine since my last usage. I'm currently unable to turn on my camera for video calls. There are no camera drivers found to update it

Hi @Eckshar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP laptop’s camera toggle key (usually F8, F9, or with a camera icon) stopped working, and no camera driver is detected meaning Windows can’t see the camera at all.

Check Privacy Settings

  • Press Windows + I → Privacy & Security → Camera
  • Turn Camera access ON for all apps.

Use the Camera Key or Switch

  • Tap the camera key (usually F8 or one with a camera icon).
  • If it doesn’t work, try Fn + F8.
  • Check for a physical shutter on the webcam — open it if closed.

Reinstall Camera Driver

  • Right-click Start → Device Manager
  • Under Cameras / Imaging devices, right-click your camera → Uninstall
  • Restart your laptop.
  • If the camera is missing, click Action → Scan for hardware changes.

Update from HP Website

  • Go to support.hp.com/drivers
  • Enter your laptop model → install Camera, BIOS, and Chipset drivers.

Run HP Hardware Test

  • Turn off laptop → press Esc repeatedly while turning on → F2 → Component Tests → Camera.
  • If it’s not detected, it might be a hardware issue (loose or faulty camera).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
