On the latest elitebook, but also on any laptop with the modern keyboard... how do I type very common combinations for unix/linux such as shift+ins?!
BOTH shift keys are also function keys! one is the function lock the other is print screen. and the only way i can have Insert key is by pressing Fn key (insert is available on both Fn+F10, or Fn+E)... but if i press Fn+E(for Insert) + shift... then it becomes (Fn+E = Insert)+(Fn+shift = function lock)...
shift+insert is very common (it is "Paste" on most terminals) but this also happens with every single combination on "hidden behind Fn" keys that require shift. Such as shift+printscreen to screen shot only a single windows, shift+break to pause debuggers, etc...
and this impact all OSes

Ctrl + C is the most common method across operating systems of performing an insert (paste) of text that has been copied into memory.

I know about Ctrl+c, but this is not helpful. Cases where i must use other methods is when ctrl+c is being used to cancel program execution, like when connected via terminal/console to another server, etc.
Far from your regular microsoft user, there are many use cases where you need to type Shift plus those keys.
Also, experimenting i seem to have found a BIOS Bug:
the F1-12 keys, does not respect Bios function key status when pressed with shift!
example, F5/Mute... if i press it alone, i get F5. If i enable Fn Lock, i get Mute key signal. If i press Shift+F5, no matter the state of function lock, i get Shift+F5!
This may sound innocent with F5/mute, but when you consider F10/Insert is the only way i can get Insert without pressing Fn key (which I must to be able to use shift), now i get Shift+F10 instead of Shift+insert EVEN WHEN USING THE FN LOCK to get the special key instead of the F1-12 keys... sigh.

I will leave you alone to continue your thoughts.
I wish you the best of success in your search for the ideal keystroke combinations.
