@jonthanks, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If you find that a portion of your RAM is being reserved for hardware and you want to free up this memory, here's what you can try:
Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup by pressing the F10 key during boot up.
- Once in the BIOS, look for settings related to memory. Depending on your BIOS version, check for any option that might allow you to change the amount of hardware reserved memory.
- Save changes and exit.
Update BIOS:
- Ensure that your BIOS is up to date by visiting the HP Support page and searching for your specific model. Download and install any available BIOS updates.
Adjust RAM Remapping:
- Some systems support "Memory Remapping" in the BIOS, which can help reduce reserved RAM for hardware. Look for options related to this under advanced settings in the BIOS.
Check System Configuration:
- Go to Start > Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings.
- Click on the Settings button under the Performance section.
- Go to the Advanced tab and ensure that the "Paging file size" is set properly.
Verify Installed RAM:
- Make sure your operating system can recognize all the installed RAM. You can check the RAM total in Settings.
Update Drivers:
- Update all your drivers, especially those related to your motherboard and the integrated graphics (available on the HP Support page).
Upgrade to a 64-bit Operating System:
- If you are on a 32-bit Windows version, it may not be utilizing all your RAM. Consider installing a 64-bit version of Windows.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
