I'd like to upgrade RAM for my laptop, and I'd like some advice on what RAM to buy.

My current specifications as shown by HP Support Assistant:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU@2.60GHz

System memory: 4GB - Memory slot 1 4GB Hynix/Hyundai 1600 MHz

System board: 1949 KBC Version 90.0C

And this is what the manual says:

Standard

  • DDR3L SDRAM (1600 MHz)

  • Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory

  • 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB SODIMMs

Maximum
  • Upgradeable to 16384MB with optional 8192MB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2

Dual-channel
  • Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.

I'd like to upgrade to the maximum capacity (ideally). My laptop is 3 years old, and I have almost no experience, so I'd really appreciate any direction in brand, type, RAM combinations.

Thank you very much for your time.

This is the 450 G1 but give you an idea how to get in there:

This is the Service Manual and shows that your model and the G1 are just about the same physical configuration:

Manual

See p. 45 for "how-to"

These are the right DDR3L-1600 8 gig modules:

8-GB (PC3L-12800, 1600-MHz, DDR3L) 693374-001

Here is a pair of them for $90 on amazon.com, which is a pretty good deal:

https://www.amazon.com/Original-PC3L-12800-DDR3L-1600-SODIMM-Notebooks/dp/B01LW0SSZF/ref=sr_1_5?ie=U...

Not sure if there are any more questions. On your model memory upgrade is pretty easy to do. Just follow static precautions, open it up and put the new memory in and fire it back up. Should be good to go.
