Here is the service Manual:

You can add an M.2 SSD in addition to the existing hard drive. Post back and we can walk you thrugh your options and provide detailed instructions.

Thank you for that! Would it be better to remove and replace the HDD drive?

Most people want to keep the hard drive for storage and add a much faster SSD to act as the bootdisk for Windows. We have helped many many people do just that. Never had someone say he or she was sorry for doing it.

Ok great, would it also help if I add more memory? I  currently have 8gb and am thinking about adding another 8gb if it will help

HP Recommended

It certainly won't hurt but many are disappointed by it. 8 gigs is really enough for most users so if 8 is working well for you it is possible to see very little if any benefit going to 16. You should check the resource meter on the laptop after doing some demanding tasks and see if you are even getting close to using all 8 gigs. Odds are your bottleneck is not memory but the hard drive and an SSD will be just what you needed.

So how do I go about upgrading the hard drive? Is there a specific brand that I need? And is it something I can do at home?

HP Recommended

Its all laid out in the Manual I linked. You would not be upgrading the hard drive you would be adding in a new disk which is a new type called an M.2 form factor. Looks like a stretched out memory module. It's not super-difficult but does require some skills with a screwdriver and some caution. If you want to try I can link you to the product to buy on amazon.com and perhaps find a youtube video showing exactly how to do it. Then we have to focus on getting Windows onto the new disk and that is also easier than it used to be but still requires a bit of tech skill.

By all means please link the product and the instructions to put windows on the new hard drive... I want to get this done asap... Thank you so much for your help

M.2 SSD 500 gb that would work fine:

Post back if you are with me this far and we can talk about software migration to the SSD.
