Thank you! Quick question, can I just take out the HDD and replace it with this?  I don't think I necessarily need the HDD for additional storage

Yes you could. The one I suggest would be about 5 times faster but this one is much faster than the hard drive. You still are going to have to get software onto this SSD.

I just ordered the one you suggested. So once installed how do I transfer the software?

HP Recommended

You can clone the hard drive to the SSD as long as the hard drive does not contain more data than the size of the SSD. I would actually suggest a clean install of Windows 10 onto the new SSD and keep your files on the hard drive. If you want to clone I recommend Macrium Reflect Free software.

Great! Thank you so much for your guidance. I really need to get this laptop preforming better!

How do I make the ssd the boot disk?

HP Recommended

Remove the hard drive and install Windows onto the SSD. Have you decided whether you are going to clone or do a clean install yet?

HP Recommended

I think I'll clone it. I know you mentioned I can use the HDD for storage only so don't still have to remove it after I clone it?

HP Recommended

To clone you are going to have to have both drives in the computer. Download and install Macrium Reflect Free. Use it to make the bootable recovery media which is a copy of the software that will run from a usb bootable disk. Boot from it and run the cloning part of the app to clone the HDD to the SSD. Then shut down and remove the HDD and leave the SSD in. Boot it with the SSD a few times. When you put the hard drive back in you need to remove the Windows system files (you do not need duplicate Windows system files) and just leave the storage folders. Voila. Let me know if you need more help with it. I am of course assuming that the volume of data on the hard drive is less than the size of the SSD. If not we are going to have to take some additional steps.
