Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I have an hp 15s-gr0006au laptop. I upgraded to WD blue SN5000 NVME SSD and noticed in benchmark that the speeds maxes out around~1800 MB/S, which is very low in case of gen3x4. IN WD dashboard it's showing gen1x2 lanes. what is the reason behind this?
can anyone please confirm:
1. Does the M.2 slot in this model support PCIe gen3x4 or gen3x2? ( though the WD gen4 downgrade to gen3 speed

)
2. Is there any documentation thet specifies the exact max ssd generation and PCIe generation I can use in this model?

Thanks You.

Hi @priyans23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how important it is for your SSD upgrade to deliver the performance you expect, and we’re here to help clarify things with care and precision.

SSD Compatibility for HP Laptop - 15s-gr0006au

Based on HP’s official specifications for your model, the M.2 slot supports PCIe NVMe SSDs, but it is limited to Gen3x2 lanes. This means:

  • Even though your WD Blue SN5000 is a Gen4 SSD, it will downgrade to Gen3 speeds due to the laptop’s hardware.
  • The Gen3x2 lane configuration restricts maximum throughput to around 1800–2000 MB/s, which aligns with your benchmark results.
  • This is not a fault with your SSD, but a design limitation of the laptop’s motherboard and M.2 interface.

Ok understand so it's support max Gen3x2 lanes not gen3x4 that's why I'm not getting even 3000 MB/s. But still now If i test the result max time I got the speed like 500 MB/s which is SATA like speed why? in very rare cases I got 1600-1800 MB/S. Is it SSD issue?
