Hi @starduke38 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering with your HP Compaq Mini 110c-1006NR requesting a "CURRENT password" is a common problem with older notebooks. This typically refers to the BIOS or system password.

Here are steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Step-by-Step Guide

Try Default Passwords: Sometimes, manufacturers set default passwords. Here are some you can try:

  • 12345
  • password
  • admin

Reset BIOS Password:

Hard Reset (CMOS Battery Method):

  1. Power off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Open the back cover to access the motherboard.
  4. Locate the CMOS battery (a small, round, silver battery).
  5. Remove the CMOS battery and wait for about 5-10 minutes.
  6. Reinsert the CMOS battery, reassemble the laptop, and power it on. This should reset the BIOS settings, including the password.

Jumper Method:

  1. Power off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the back cover to access the motherboard.
  3. Look for a password jumper (usually labeled CLEAR, CLR, JCMOS, or similar).
  4. Move the jumper from the default position to the reset position.
  5. Power on the laptop for a few seconds, then turn it off again.
  6. Move the jumper back to its original position.
  7. Reassemble the laptop and power it on.

BIOS Password Recovery Software:

  • There are third-party tools available online that can help recover or reset BIOS passwords. Some popular ones include PC CMOS Cleaner or !BIOS. However, use these tools with caution, as they might not be compatible with all models and could potentially cause harm if not used correctly.

Keyboard Layout (AZERTY vs QWERTY)

  • Since your notebook has an AZERTY keyboard but the text on the screen is in English, try entering the password both ways:
    • As it would be typed on an AZERTY keyboard.
    • As it would be typed on a QWERTY keyboard (considering the physical layout of the keys).

Important Notes

  • Data Backup: If you manage to reset or bypass the password, consider backing up your data immediately to prevent future issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
