Hi everyone, I have a hp notebook with i7-3630QM processor. I would like to upgrade to the i7-3940XM or i7-3840QM processor.
The motherboard is the 18B8 model with HM77 chipset and F.2E bios.
Could you tell me if these two processors are both compatible? Thanks a lot

Yes, it should work with the motherboard. However, HP doesn't recommend downgrading or upgrading the processor on the computer. You can do it at your own risk.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know whether the i7-3940XM or i7-3840QM processor supported on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
As per the service guide for your computer looks like both the processors you have mentioned are not tested.
Refer to page 38 from the below service guide for the tested processor on the computer.

I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
