Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For some reason, my HP Envy will not charge unless it is completely powered down. When the device is on and plugged in, the charging light is white rather than orange even when it is close to dead. It acts as if it is completely charged and will not increase at all. Someone please help thank you

Hi @RonJohnson468

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing charging-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

  • May I know from when are you facing this issue?
  • Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
  • Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery?
  • Are you using an HP genuine AC adapter?
  • Were there any recent windows updates on the PC?
  • Does your laptop shutdown when you unplug the charger from your PC?

Try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on the PC and check if it helps.

You can update drivers on your PC using the HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here

Check if the pin inside the DC or charging port is bent or broken.

Please perform below-shown steps to resolve the issue:
Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get reinstalled automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Please remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter
Step 09. Look for "Plugged In Charging" message on the Battery icon

Also, Try performing a hard reset on your laptop and check if it helps.

Turn off the computer.

Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Remove the battery from the battery compartment.

With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.

Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

The computer starts normally or a startup menu opens.

NOTE:

If your computer does not start after pressing the Power button, then a power reset did not resolve the startup issue. SeeAdditional resources for further troubleshooting steps.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
