I have 3 things I would like to try resolve in 1 post. I have posted about 2 of these issues in the HP community forums but only the Power usage one got any replies but even those weren't much help.

The colors of the screen is extremely washed out and dull looking since day 1 compared to my Lenovo yoga and cooler master monitor. I have seen other posts online of the same issue but were resolved by deleting the hp display app but I do not have the hp display app. The issue was improved a tiny bit by enabling 8 bit with dithering but it is still extremely washed out and is immediately noticeable to anyone that uses it. The exact same laptop on display at the store I bought it from (Harvey Norman [Australia]) has a wayy nicer looking screen that I almost thought was oled until I looked carefully.

Literally yesterday, the laptop stopped recognising its speakers and says there are "no audio devices installed" and no output devices found in windows. I can't find it in device manager as well. Any external headphones or monitor speakers work perfectly fine if they are connected. I have tried restarting it multiple times to no avail.

It refuses to use any more than 20w under load. Its not thermal throttling as it maxes out at 80 degrees briefly until it decreases to around 60 where it stays under full load drawing 20w. Ryzen Controller gives the error "Unable to apply Ryzenadj" when i try manually increasing or decreasing anything. AMD says that this APU should have a max TDP of 28w.

Thanks to anyone who replies regardless of if it ends up being helpful.

@brett0123, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Washed-out and dull screen colors:

This issue can be caused by several factors, including incorrect display settings or software issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Steps to fix the washed-out display:

Check Color Profile:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and choose Display Settings.
  2. Scroll down and click on Advanced Display Settings.
  3. Click on Display adapter properties for your display.
  4. Go to the Color Management tab.
  5. Under the Device Profile, ensure the correct color profile is set (usually sRGB or the native one for your laptop).
  6. If it's already correct, try adjusting the brightness and contrast settings to see if that improves it.

Update Graphics Drivers: Sometimes outdated drivers can affect display quality. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display Adapters and right-click your graphics card.
  3. Click on Update Driver.
  4. You can also visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers from there.

Use HP Display Settings (if available): Since you mentioned you don’t have the HP display app, check if the laptop's display settings are accessible in the BIOS or through other pre-installed HP software.

2. Audio device issues:

The "No Audio Devices Installed" error is typically related to either a driver issue or a hardware malfunction. Here's what you can try:

Steps to fix the missing audio device:

Restart Audio Services:

  1. Press Win + R and type services.msc, then press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
  3. Right-click on each one and select Restart.

Check Device Manager:

  1. Open Device Manager and check under Sound, video, and game controllers.
  2. If there is no audio device listed or an exclamation mark appears, right-click on the section and choose Scan for hardware changes.
  3. You can also uninstall the sound drivers and restart the laptop to let Windows reinstall them automatically.

Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  1. Visit the HP website and download the latest audio drivers for your model.
  2. After downloading, uninstall the current audio driver from Device Manager and then reinstall the downloaded driver.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Playing Audio and follow the prompts to diagnose and fix any audio issues.

Test with External Audio: If external headphones or monitors work fine, it suggests that the speakers themselves might have a hardware issue. If all else fails.

3. Power/Performance Limitation (20W under load):

This is likely related to power management settings or a configuration issue with the APU's power limits. Since Ryzen Controller isn’t working properly, we’ll need to troubleshoot within Windows and possibly the BIOS.

Steps to fix the 20W power issue:

Check Power Plan Settings:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Select High Performance (if not already selected).
  3. Click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  4. Under Processor power management, set Maximum processor state to 100% for both plugged-in and battery.

Update Ryzen Drivers and Firmware: Make sure you have the latest AMD Ryzen chipset drivers and BIOS updates installed.

  1. Visit the HP website and download the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your laptop.
  2. You can also get updates directly from AMD’s website if you haven't already.

Disable AMD Ryzen Power Management: If Ryzen Controller isn’t working, you might need to disable AMD’s own power management:

  1. Open Device Manager > Processors.
  2. Right-click on your AMD processor and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Driver tab and check if there's an option to disable any power management settings or throttling.

BIOS Settings: Sometimes, power limits can be adjusted directly in the BIOS:

  1. Reboot the laptop and press F10 to enter the BIOS.
  2. Look for CPU or power settings that could affect thermal throttling or power limits.
  3. Ensure that settings related to CPU power limits or thermal management aren’t too restrictive.

Check for Background Processes: If your CPU isn’t using more than 20W, check if there are background processes using up resources. Open Task Manager and monitor which apps or processes are consuming CPU power.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
