So, recently I was watching a movie on my laptop and the laptop was in my lap, I moved my position a bit and out of nowhere it went black, as i panicked, after a few seconds, it turned up and I was at the lock screen. This happens almost most of the time when laptop is moved a bit. Can someone please help me diagnose it?

Hi @eden23,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion 14 dv0xxx laptop. The behavior you're describing—where the screen goes black and the system locks when the laptop is moved—often points to a hardware-related problem. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Check for Loose Connections:

  • The internal video cable connecting the motherboard to the display might be loose or damaged. When this connection is unstable, moving the laptop can cause the screen to go black.

Test with an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an appropriate cable (HDMI, VGA, etc.).
  • If the external display works fine, the issue is likely with your laptop's screen or its internal connections.
  • If the external display also goes black when you move the laptop, the problem might be related to the graphics card or motherboard.

Boot into BIOS:

  • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F10, Esc, or Del) to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Gently move the laptop while in the BIOS screen. If the screen goes black or the system restarts, it's a strong indication of a hardware issue.

Inspect for External Factors:

  • Ensure that there are no strong magnetic fields or electronic devices nearby that could interfere with the laptop's operation. Some users have reported that external magnets can cause the display to turn off unexpectedly.

Update Graphics Drivers and BIOS:

  • Visit the HP Support website and ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers and BIOS installed for your model. Sometimes, software updates can resolve unexpected behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
