Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

my issue is that I’ve had i3 370m for about a month now so i wanted to upgrade to i7 740qm. than i bought one, when i installed into the laptop the power button led was blinking and it didn’t turn on can anybody help me with that issue? laptop is HP PAVILION DV7 4050sy with hd 5650

Hi:

 

You indicated it came with an i3-370M, which is a dual core processor.

 

Even the i5-540M is a dual core processor, not a quad core.

 

Check the specs below.   Dual core with hyperthreading...

Hi:

 

Notebooks with the dual core processors use different motherboards than notebooks with the quad core processors.

 

That is why the processor didn't work.
