Hi,
According to the service manual the compatible CPU you can upgrade to is the
Intel Quad Core i7-3632QM 2.20-GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.2-GHz; 1600-MHz FSB, 6.0- MB L3 cache, 35 W)
part number 701658-001
You can see the steps to upgrade the CPU on page 85 of service manual:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03939658
You can also look at the HP videos for that model which can help with any upgrade

Remember to replace any thermal paste and pads with quality material such as Arctic MX-4 or similar.
Let me know if you need any further help,
David

Hi Josh,
I didn't pursue it in the end and it is so long ago I cannot remember why in the end I didn't do so. So I am afraid unfortunately I cannot give you any further information that would be of help.
One thing that does come to mind though and that came up with another HP model of laptop, I don't remember what the situation was with this HP 15-e047sa model. Although everything might be saying a particular cpu upgrade will work, you need to actually check that the type of cpu fitted is not one that is soldered on to the motherboard, rather than a removable one in a socket.
best regards,
Ian
