Hello. I formmatted a laptop that is a HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop, and I need the Windows XP Multimedia controller driver for sound. I found another post that contained the drivers through your ftp site, but none of links to the ftp sites seem to be working. Can someone please assist me with these software drivers for this Windows XP HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop?

Hi:

HP has retired support for your notebook since it is more than 10 years old.

HP no longer allows us to access the FTP site where the index of files are.

You have two options:

You can use the drivers from this reputable 3rd party website.

HP Pavilion zv5000 drivers (driverscollection.com)

You can go back to wherever you found the drivers on this forum and see if modifying the links will work for you.

Here's how:

Old:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30791.exe

Copy and paste the above link to Notepad.

Delete the first ftp and substitute it with https:

New:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30791.exe

If someone could post the links to the FTP sites that contains all the drivers for this HP Pavilion laptop, zv5000, that would be great.

Hello. For some reason the sound driver doesn't work. When I install it, it says there is no driver found. This is the link I used:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp28501-29000/sp28552.exe

Hi:

I have zipped up and attached the SMBus controller driver you need below.

Download and unzip the file to its folder.

XP does not have a built-in file unzipping program from what I recall, so download and install the free 7-zip file utility from the link below.

The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 32 bit.

7-Zip

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the file I attached.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, open the folder, and run the setup application you see in the folder and that should install the SMBus controller.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor, but an Nvidia graphics card. When I try and install that bus controller you attached, it won't install. Do I need a different one since I have a Nvidia Graphics card?

That driver folder was a part of the AMD graphics driver, but I assumed since I just pulled the separate AMD smbus controller driver install file out of the package, it would work.

I have not manually installed a driver in XP for years, but I think if you just manually install the driver inf that is in that SMBus folder when you explore the driver folder that should work.

Check the hardware ID for the SMBus controller your notebook has, and it should be the same one supported by the driver.

%ATI.DeviceDesc0% = ATISMBus, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4353

If you are not familiar with how to manually install a driver in XP, this video should help.
