I need to replace the battery in my laptop and the back cover seems to be broken at the hinge. The laptop was bought in the uk but i am based in France. Could anyone help me out with suggestions on how to replace? The parts are no longer available through HP

Here is the Service Manual.
Battery (3-cell, 41-WHr, 3.6-AHr, Li-ion) 920070-855
As far as the bottom cover, I hesitate to provide you with a part number because if it is cracked at the hinges, replacing that part may not fix the problem very long. You may have broken hinges or other parts. Can you post a picture or better description of the damage?

Roughly as the screen is opened the cover pulls off on that one corner. The back cover itself is not actually broken. The problem is I cannot remove the last screw. It just turns in place (both directions) So the only solution i can think of is to cut the screw out and then I would need to replace the back cover. I suspect a clip has broken internally.

The hinges are busted. Those screws go through the hinge mounts and then into metal screwholes embedded in the case. The screwholes have busted loose from the plastic. You need new hinges (should never replace just one) and it needs to be disassembled to identify all broken parts.

If the screw is turning it is not holding anything and you can get the back cover off by getting all the other screws out and then separating the back cover from the base assembly. The screw will just come along with the back cover.

I have eventually got the back cover off with a lot of difficulty - the screw casings were broken. I will put up some photos but not sure how this happened. The back cover and the hinges seem to bee in tact and not an issue and the screw are obviously now out but the problem persists because there are now no screws in place. I guess I have to replace the plastic piece that the components screw into (no idea of the correct name for this) but it looks like a really difficult thing to do as everything would need to come off....
