Hello I have a Hp proobook 4710s with win7 ultimate 64bit and I want to upgrade my Ram.
Currently according to CPU-z I have 2GB at 800Mhz. While searching hp.com and the net I found out that some 4710s take ddr2 and other ddr3.
So I chated 2 weeks ago with an HP expert and he told that my laptop handles maximum 8GB at 1333. So I went and bought 2x2GB at 1333...
When I tried to installed them I came across with a DDR2 socket!!!!! Obviously the ddr3 wasn't fitting in that socket.
So my question is---> WHAT is going on? Everywhere I search in the Net some say DDR2 and others DDR3. How is that possible? Does the laptop have other sockets for Drr3 modules that I haven't find?
My S/N is {Removed for privacy} and P/n is NX629EA#AKD
Please help because I am depserate!!

Hi,
Many thanks for the link, I really don't know what is going on here too. On page #3 it says DDR2 but on other page(s) it says DDR3. Its manual also shows DDR2 as in my previous post and you've found out it only supports DDR2. May be later models support DDR3. Anyway, back to your question, I know Crucial RAM works but do not know others. Sorry.
Regards.

Hi,
Based on its manual, it ONLY supports DDR2 RAM:
2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots
Supports dual-channel memory
Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM
PC2-6400, 800 MHz, DDR2
And you've already found out: they won't even physically fit. It only has 2 slots and MUST be DDR2 as mentioned above. Do you know which source saying it supports DDR3, from HP or somewhere else ? The following link is also a very reliable source, you can buy from them (DDR2 RAM is more expensive now):
Regards.

Thank you for your quick responce.
I read about the ddr3 over here page 11 http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13252_na/13252_na.pdf
Can I buy a 2Gb 800mhz and just add it?
will it work with my current Elpida Memory (2GB 800Mhz PN: Part No. : EBE21UE8AESA) ?
OR I have to buy a new 2x2GB kit in order to be from the same manufacture?
Here is my local store and the Memories I can buy
How will I know if they can work together? I can't afford to buy a 2x2GB kit at the moment.
