Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello,
My HP laptop is about 1.5 years old and is out of warranty. My laptop suddenly shuts down with a single beep sound (the same sound you get when you force shut down with the power button). This happens within 5-10 minutes after the laptop boots. I ran the system diagnostics test and got the following error:

Testing Drive: 1
Hard Drive SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Drive Short DST Check : FAILED

FAILURE ID : 6CV7N4-81U8PM-MFPWMF-60VQ03
PRODUCT ID : N8L63PA#ACJ

The hard drive must be replaced. Great job running the diagnostics, that shows you are thinking through the issue.

You have a 1 TB 5400 rpm drive and the Service Manual is here:

Manual

Hard drive replacement on p. 49 but pay close attention to how to get the back cover off.

You could upgrade to a solid state drive in lieu of the slow 5400 rpm drive or even just a 7200 rpm spin speed drive like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Black-Performance-Mobile-Hard-Drive/dp/B01DOL05OC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1504...

Post back if you need any more help. If you have Windows 10 it is very easy to get a free install disk and reload it. You need no Key Code.
