HP envy x360 laptop suddenly stops working. It’s not getting switched. Removed battery and trying to connect directly through power cable. Once blinked and then goes off. Then removed SsD , memory. Same results. What may be the issue and how to get it rectified.

Hi @Sa1971
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Your HP Envy x360's issue sounds like a hardware-related problem, likely tied to the power delivery, motherboard, or internal components.
Let's go through some potential causes and steps you can take to diagnose and resolve the issue:
Possible Causes
Power Delivery Issue:
- The power adapter, charging port, or internal power delivery system might be faulty.
- Even with the battery removed, a damaged power supply circuit could prevent proper functioning.
Motherboard Failure:
- A failing motherboard or power controller chip could result in these symptoms, especially if the laptop briefly powers on but immediately shuts off.
Short Circuit or Faulty Component:
- Removing the SSD and memory excludes them as causes, but other components (e.g., capacitors or internal power regulators) may be shorted or damaged.
Overheating or Thermal Shutdown:
- If the laptop was overheating before this issue arose, thermal damage could have caused critical components to stop functioning.
BIOS or Firmware Corruption:
- Corrupted BIOS settings can sometimes prevent the system from starting properly.
Steps to Diagnose and Fix
1. Check Power Adapter and Charging Port
- Test your power adapter with another compatible HP laptop, or try a different adapter with the same voltage/wattage.
- Inspect the charging port for loose connections or physical damage.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery (if possible), and unplug all peripherals.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual electricity.
- Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery) and attempt to power on.
3. Reset CMOS Battery
- Open the laptop’s back panel and locate the CMOS battery (a small round battery on the motherboard).
- Remove the CMOS battery for 5 minutes, then reinsert it. This resets the BIOS to its default settings.
4. Inspect Motherboard Components
- Examine the motherboard for visible damage, like burnt components or leaking capacitors.
- If you're comfortable, use a multimeter to test continuity and ensure the power delivery circuits are functioning.
5. Test with Minimal Components
- Attempt to boot the laptop with only the essential components connected (e.g., motherboard, CPU, and power adapter, without SSD, RAM, or peripherals). If the laptop powers on, reinsert components one at a time to identify the culprit.
6. Attempt a BIOS Recovery
- If the system shows any signs of life, try a BIOS recovery:
- Create a BIOS recovery USB using another computer and HP’s BIOS update tool.
- Insert the USB into the laptop and attempt to boot while holding Windows + B and pressing the power button.
