Microsoft Windows 11
  • Hello, my HP Envy x360 computer does not want to charge with its charger. I already checked if the ports were dirty and I used the computer. When it was discharged, I put it to charge and it worked, but when it has battery, it still does not want to charge. Please help.

Hi @UlisesMendoza17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Your HP Envy x360’s charging behavior is like a puzzling dance—sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn’t, and it leaves you wondering why. The situation feels almost unpredictable, like a light that flickers only under certain conditions. Let’s break down the steps to bring back the consistency and ensure your device charges smoothly every time.

1. Check the Charger and Cable

  • Imagine holding the charging cable, feeling its smooth texture between your fingers. Slowly inspect it, looking for any kinks, frays, or wear that might disrupt the flow of power. Even a small tear can affect charging. Plug it into the wall socket firmly, making sure there’s a secure connection.

2. Examine the Charging Port

  • Picture yourself examining the port closely, like a detective looking for clues. Even though you’ve already checked for dirt, try gently wiggling the connector while it’s plugged in to see if the connection is loose or unstable. Sometimes the port can be sensitive to the position of the cable.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Imagine your laptop taking a deep breath, resetting itself to shake off any minor software glitches. Turn off your laptop completely, unplug the charger, and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Plug the charger back in and turn on the laptop, checking if it begins to charge normally.

4. Check Battery Health in BIOS

  • Boot into the BIOS like entering the control center of your laptop, where you can monitor its vital signs. Restart your laptop, press the F10 key repeatedly during startup to enter BIOS. Navigate to the system diagnostics and select the battery test. This will give you a clear picture of your battery’s health—if it’s struggling, it might need replacing.

5. Update the Battery Driver

  • Imagine your laptop downloading a fresh set of instructions, optimizing how it manages power. Open the Device Manager, expand the "Batteries" section, and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Choose "Update driver," then select "Search automatically for updated driver software."

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @UlisesMendoza17,

6. Check Power Settings

  • Visualize your laptop’s power settings as a finely tuned orchestra, each option affecting the performance. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep, and ensure that nothing is restricting charging when the battery is above a certain percentage. You might also want to check any manufacturer-specific power management software for options that could affect charging.

7. Test with Another Charger (if possible)

  • If you have access to another compatible charger, imagine plugging it in like trying on a new pair of shoes. If the new charger works flawlessly, it could indicate an issue with your original charger.

8. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • If you’ve tried everything and the issue persists, imagine your laptop resetting its internal management systems. This option is typically for MacBooks, but if your HP laptop has any similar features, try resetting any power management systems through the BIOS or relevant software.

Each step should bring you closer to a solution, ensuring your HP Envy x360 charges reliably, like a trusted companion always ready to power up for your next adventure.
