Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi I have a HP laptop model 14s-dk10116AU which I am having a problem that the battery only charges when the laptop is turned off. When the laptop is turned on the battery does not charge and stays at the same charge percent. I have tired different charging cables which in fact I bought a complete new one thinking that was the problem but still the same . Has anyone come across the same problem and how have you fixed it or could it be the battery being the problem. I have done the windows check but saying all ok. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hi @Zrinch,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with your HP laptop's battery not charging when the laptop is turned on. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your drivers, including the battery and power management drivers, are up to date. Additionally, check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop model on the HP website.
  • Reset Power Management Settings: Sometimes, power management settings can cause issues with battery charging. Try resetting the power management settings to their default values.
  • Check Power Settings: Go into your laptop's power settings and make sure that nothing is configured to prevent the battery from charging while the laptop is on.
  • Perform Battery Calibration: Occasionally, recalibrating the battery can help resolve charging issues. To do this, fully charge your laptop while it's turned off, then use it until the battery drains completely. Repeat this process a couple of times to recalibrate the battery.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Certain software or background processes could be interfering with the charging process. Try booting your laptop in Safe Mode and see if the issue persists. If the battery charges normally in Safe Mode, then a software conflict may be the cause.
  • Inspect Battery Health: It's possible that the battery itself is failing and needs to be replaced. You can check the health of your battery using diagnostic tools provided by HP software. If the battery health is degraded, consider replacing it.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your laptop's battery not charging properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
