Does a Hp lk03xl battery for an Envy need a heat shield?  My original had a heat shield on the back (outward facing), but replacement came without one.  It appears the original battery may have over heated and perhaps the heat shields were discontinued...

@GregFR,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

An excellent question.

My personal take on this -mind you, I do not represent or speak for HP, is no, a battery heat shield is not needed.  As a matter of fact, I am of the opinion that a heat shield could be counterproductive as it may work like an insulator.  Admittedly, this could be a good thing at the McMurdo Antarctic Base, but most of us live in hotter environs.  In addition, many laptops do not have a battery heat shield, and I have never seen a replacement battery being sold with one.

In my experience, getting rid of laptop-generated heat is the more relevant problem.  I would recommend a laptop cooling pad, such as this purchase example: Amazon.com: TECKNET Laptop Cooling Pad, Portable Slim Quiet USB Powered Laptop Notebook Cooler Cooli....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
