HI I have an hp omen 17 -anoxx

I was simply wondering if in the future can I upgrade the gpu or do I need to upgrade the whole motherboard?

You would have to replace the motherboard.

Chapter 3 has the list of supported motherboards.

However i got to the system boards section and it listed 8th gen i7's i have a 7th gen i 7 motherboard.

What model number is that?

The service manual is for the 17-an1xx model series and is the only one available.

 

The motherboards for that model series should also work in yours.
