Hello,
I have HP laptop 15-ab117ng,
in the HP driver update I see the 2019 BIOS updates for my laptop: SEE THE SCREEN SHOTS
Type: BIOS Version: F.54 Rev.A
Operating systems: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Release date: Jun 18, 2019.
my latest BIOS version goes back to 2017. F45.
I went through manual update from USB procedure explained in the HP we page:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
but the system Board ID I read in the BIOS setup in my machine doesnot match with file versions I received from HP website:
in the SCREENSHOTS below you can see what I see in my BIOS setup:
the system board ID is 80B8
but the file version in Hewlett-Packard folder, FOLER BIOS, NEW or FOLDER CURRENT that I downloaded are:
080AE.bin
080B1.bin
would you please tell me which file should I use for BIOS update?
p.s: windows update is not updating the BIOS, and also the automatic BIOS update through the windows installation was failed to update thats why I go through the manual update by flash USB
the message I got during automatic BIOS update within the windows was:
" The system BIOS update Failed, unable to....."

@Jubli,
HP laptops retains the current working bios file in the \EFI\HP\BIOS folder on the hard drive, if HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI is installed in EFI partition, and you can view the stored .bin file from Firmware Management of F2 PC Diagnostics UEFI. A correct .bin file you need to use for update is the one that has the same suffix as a bin file in the \EFI folder. Here are steps to follow:
1.Remove a USB drive with the two sets of update bios files if it's still connected and start the laptop and enter F2 PC Diagnostics UEFI.
2. Click Firmware Management.
3. Click BIOS Update tab.
4. Click Select BIOS Image to Apply
5.Click whatever appears below "Please Select File System."
6. Click EFI and navigate to \EFI\HP\BIOS\current.
7. Now you'll see "xxxxx.bin."
A bios update file for my Pavilion laptop generated two sets of bios files, 01982 and 02130 .bin files and my system board ID is1984, but bios file stored in EFI shows 01982 (see the screen shot below) and the new 01982 bin file successfully updated my BIOS.
Let me know how it goes. If this doesn't work, there's other way you can try.
Take care.
