My pen that came with the laptop stopped working. I thought the batteries died because i haven't used it in a week and its been working for a little over a year now so i bought new batteries and it still doesn't work. The touch controls work and a can draw with my finger so I know its not the screen. The little cursor that would pop up and move around when you moved the pen is no longer there and both buttons do not work. Nothing is registering and its not the computer, its the pen. I tried reading other posts and doing what was recommended like updates to drivers, batteries and such and nothing works. I even tried replacing the plastic tip with a new one and nothing works. I don't want to have to buy a 100 dollar pen because this suddenly stopped working. I literally did nothing and it stopped working so I'm here hoping someone can point me to a magic fix because this is starting to get frustrating.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Check if the pen works on an alternate device, just to be sure.
If it doesn't, its as you thought, a hardware malfunction. If it does, try the below steps:
1. Go to the HP Software & Driver Downloads page.
2. Type your model number in the Enter your HP product name, product number or serial number box, for example, HP Spectre 15-bl000 x360 Convertible PC, and then click Find.
If a list of model numbers displays, select your model number from the list.
The Software and driver results page for your model displays.
3. Make sure the Detected operating system is correct. If necessary, click Change, select your operating system and version, and then click Change.
4. Click Firmware.
5. If a firmware update is available for the touch screen, click Download next to the update.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the firmware update.
Let me know if this helps.

This did not work. When I went to the drivers and software for my laptop, the only firmware downloads were for the web camera and the tilt pen. My pen is note a tilt pen. There was no download for any touchscreen drivers. To this day, I have still tried downloading different drivers and nothing is working and the pen still does not register with the laptop screen and no buttons work.

Have you tried calibrating the touch screen?
Please refer to the following link to Using Touch Screen to Control Programs and Input Text.

This did not work either. The screen doesn't pick up any pen input. I tried it with my finger and it worked fine but any time the pen is used, nothing works. The screen isn't the problem, its the pen. The pen doesn't do anything anymore.
