Hi @loukas9 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing significantly lower battery life than expected on your new HP Spectre 14" 2024 model. There could be several reasons for this, ranging from software issues to hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve your battery life:
Let's try the below Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
- Check Power Settings: Make sure your power settings are optimized for battery life. You can adjust these settings in the control panel or settings menu of your operating system (Windows or macOS).
- Update Software and Drivers: Ensure that your operating system and all drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause battery drain issues.
- Close Unnecessary Apps: Make sure you're not running unnecessary apps or programs in the background that could be draining your battery.
- Monitor Battery Usage: Check your task manager or activity monitor to see if any particular apps or processes are using a lot of battery power. You can then close or disable these if necessary.
- Reset Battery Management: Some laptops have battery management software that may need to be reset. Check your laptop's manual or support documentation for instructions on how to do this.
- Calibrate Battery: Occasionally, calibrating your battery can help improve its performance. This involves fully charging and then fully discharging your battery. Again, consult your laptop's manual for specific instructions.
Let's try reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
1) In the search box, type, and open “Device Manager”.
2) Expand “Batteries”.
3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
4) Click on “Uninstall”.
5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
6) Shut down the computer.
7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.
😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
9) Go to Device Manager.
10) Expand Batteries.
11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software". Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.
Let us try Battery Calibration,
Please charge your computer for 100% and disconnect the charger and continue working on it till the battery drains completely to 0% then connect the charger and once the unit charged 100% then check
Also, try updating the computer:
Step 1 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates:
1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Thanks Gayá 1239, the battery report indicates an erratic discharge and use. The laptop has only been purchased and during that time it’s mainly windows updates, office software and Mozilla software put on it. Contacted HP support and suggested replacement.

Update
The laptop is currently in the process of been returned but in the meantime the BIOS was updated and the idle battery life increased to 6 hours.
I am expecting an idle running battery life north of 9 hours at least otherwise all reviewers will need to re-assess their tests!
