Unfortunately I spoke to someone at HP and they told me there's nothing they can do about this. It's a known design flaw but they're not going to do anything about it. He told me the only thing I can do is to try to find a replacement battery from another vendor that fits since HP isn't going to do anything about it. Sad but that's what it is.

**bleep**. I just spent over a $100 bucks replacing the back cover on my wife's Spectre as the side clips broke off on her PC creating huge gaps on both sides. The PC became a rocking PC as it would not lie flat.
I did not think of a battery issue. But when I went to install the replacement cover on her PC, it too would not fit. So, I opened my Spectre (we have two), and compared batteries. The battery in her PC was almost half an inch taller. Now, I too am pissed at HP, and I worked there for over 20 years.
With that said, now I need two batteries as I sure am not going to replace the PCs. Although I have also had to replace the screens on both last year. And like other postings, these PC are just over two years old as I purchased them just after they were released to market in the summer of 2018.

My battery is also swelling and it's virtually impossible to find a replacement. Repair shops are quoting months-long waits. This thing is a danger right now. Absolutely absurd that HP is not doing anything to remedy the situation. This seems like the sort of thing that warrants a recall.

As an update. I purchased 4 replacement batteries. Three of which are HP branded batteries. Both of our HP Spectre PCs are able to use the replacement batteries, except:
1. On the first boot up, received a CMOS REset 502 error message. So I entered the BIOS, exited with svaed changes.
2. On the next reboot, received the Battery Counterfeit Check Error. So, I downloaded a new BIOS update from HP.
3. BIOS still reports a battery issue at boot during the POST. This error times out (or you just press enter) and the PC finishes its startup.
Have used the latest HP diag battery tools. The battery ID, and serial number are correctly reported by these tools, which test the battery, reporting its condition as good. But for the life of me, I can not resolved the POST error at boot up.
Anyone have any idea?? I have been in the BIOS so many times, we are on a first name basis, but there is no battery options, and the BIOS is correctly reporting the battery ID, build date, etc.
I would call HP and pay them there $100 to speak with a tech, but the last time I did so on a different driver issue they said the driver for the GPU was no longer supported, so I wasted $100.
All drivers, BIOS, M$ updates are current. With a new HP branded battery in one PC and a non-HP branded Desting battery in the other Spectre, both PCs behave the same way.
