Since I have gotten the laptop it has had severe battery draining issues. I thought nothing of it. Now its two years old and im getting a popup that it needs to be replaced and everytime I plug it in it locks itself? I wouldn't mind replacing the battery but how long do I have until this is a dire need and what did I do wrong for this to happen? I use this for work daily and cannot go without it but a 100 dollar battery is very expensive and I will need a few weeks to be able to afford that. Any advice on where to buy a battery/ how long this battery will last would be appreciated thanks so much.

@Xepher_Glitch,

You did nothing wrong.  You may have gotten a subpar battery from the get-go.

However, before you purchase a replacement battery, please follow these HP-recommended battery troubleshooting/diagnosis steps, specifically: "Test the battery using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows (preferred method)", as shown in this link: HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows) | HP® Customer Support, and let me know what your laptop says.

To be honest though, chances are you DO need a new battery.

Your HP Notebook - 17-by1022cl (6MW68UA) laptop according to: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06325442, and: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=6MW68UA&searchby=product, is fitted with this battery: HP p/n: L11119-855 ("Assembly-battery 3C 41W 3.6A LI HTO3XL").

You can purchase a quality replacement HTO3XL battery online, such as this example: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-HT03XL-15-DA0012DX-14-CE0068ST-15-CS3073CL/dp/B0B9WD84FF/ref=sr_1....

@Xepher_Glitch,

And as to your question how long a laptop battery will/should last, that depends on use.

Ideally, a laptop battery should last up to four years or longer, barring exposures to temperature extremes -especially heat and/or humid conditions, and how often you allow your battery to reach 0% charge, or close to it.

Here is a link that provides outstanding information about battery life expectancies: How Long Does a Laptop Battery Last? (lifewire.com).

Kind Regards and a Happy New Year,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Are you asking what replacement battery you need for your HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0023dx (7PS48UA)?

If that is what you need, according to: HP PartSurfer, your laptop requires the HP p/n: L60373-005 ("Battery 4C 60Wh 3.946Ah LI RR04XL").  You can purchase a quality RR04XL replacement battery online, such as this example: Amazon.com: ASODI RR04XL L60213-AC1 L60373-005 Laptop Battery Replacement for HP Spectre X360 13-AW ....
