Initially the SSD drive was displayed as a 'D' drive w/256 GB. After restarting it doesn't show period!

They look like there's a problem with windows recognizing your new drive..
Using the Windows Diskpart application, enter Diskpart in the Windows search bar and press enter. Unfortunately it is complicated and you need some technical skills to use it but a quick test is simply to have it list any disks it can find.
Microsoft provides technical info here but not much in the way of examples other than the List Disk example.
Windows Should have asked you to initialize the drive when it" was first booted. If Diskpart shows the drive exists then try running Microsoft's create and format hard disk partitions tool".
