I am fixing/upgrading my hp pavilion ab166us to 10gb of ram 2gb+8gb

My hp pavilion ab166us has always been a trouble to me, and fresh hard drive install because the wd blue 1tb died, my 4gb Kingston stick of ram died and my 2gb stick of Hynix ram still works, I am thinking of putting a timetec Hynix 8gb stick of ram in it, the ram is 8gb 1600mhz ddr3l pc3l 12800, and I do not know if this ram will work, because I tried to replace it with a 4gb Elpida ddr3 SODIMM and I got the flashing caps lock error of no ram, I wanted to know if this ram will be a fix for my laptop.

It has 6GB DDR3L SDRAM (2 DIMM) now (4GB + 2GB). I don't know what is the reason behind by adding 8GB to have totally unbalance 2GB+8GB. Anyway why not upgrade to 16GB (max) using

i am adding the 8gb sick to the laptop because the 4gb stick died, and also the laptop is a hp pavilion ab166us with a core i3 5020u and intel hd5500 graphics, thank you, I thought the laptop used SODIMMs not SDRAM I would upgrade to 16gb, but this is not my main computer, so I don't really need 16gb of ram and I do not want to run 8gb of ram in single-channel mode because the performance will be worse than dual-channel ram, so I am going with 10gb 2+8 gb of ram.

yes it is a hp Pavillion 14 ab-166us and I will upgrade it to 16gb of ram because it will be better than running 8=2 and It will spread the load across 2 DIMMs.
