I am looking to buy a hp pavilion x360, which I would like to upgrade from 8GB RAM to 16GB, but I have been seeing conflicting facts about how possible this idea is - somewhere they say that RAM is soldered into the motherboard and therefore upgrading is impossible, and somewhere they say it can be done...what am I missing here ? I am also curious how much such a thing might cost, if anyone knows.

Many HP x360 laptop models are configured with non upgradable memory. If you want 16 or 32GB configure it as such during the purchase configuration.
You can verify whether the one you select is that way by either checking for a memory upgrade at Crucial memory or Kingston memory.
Here is my Spectre x360 13t-ap000. I use that + Crucial Memory or Kingston Memory and the rtesult shows there is a single bank of non upgradable memory.
