Hi @Shubham_172,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing is likely due to the Num Lock feature being enabled on your laptop keyboard, which causes some keys to act as a numeric keypad instead of their usual function. Here's how to resolve this.
Check Num Lock Status:
- Locate the Num Lock key on your keyboard. This key is usually found on the top row of the keyboard or integrated into another key and may require you to press Fn + Num Lock.
- If the Num Lock light is on, turn it off by pressing the Num Lock key again. If your keyboard doesn't have a light, try toggling the Num Lock key and testing your arrow keys to see if the behavior changes.
Function Key (Fn) Toggle:
- Sometimes, the arrow keys might be mapped to the numeric keypad when the Fn key is held down. Ensure that you are not accidentally holding the Fn key while using the arrow keys.
- If the Fn key is toggling the behavior of your arrow keys, try pressing Fn + Num Lock to disable this function.
Keyboard Settings in Windows:
- Go to the Start menu and open Settings.
- Navigate to Ease of Access > Keyboard.
- Ensure that the Use the numeric keypad to move the mouse around the screen option is turned off.
Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:
- Open the Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select Update driver.
- If updating the driver doesn't help, you can also try uninstalling the keyboard driver and then restarting your laptop to let Windows reinstall it automatically.
BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, Delete, or Esc during startup).
- Look for any settings related to the keyboard or Num Lock behavior and ensure they are configured correctly.
- Save any changes and exit the BIOS.
After trying these steps, your arrow keys should function normally without typing numbers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
