I bought a brand new x1 16GB DDR4-3200 hyperX ram and attached it to the second ram slot (with the factory 8GB DDR4-3200 ram on the first slot) and turned my computer on but when i look at msinfo32, it only says 8GB ram on it. While CPU-Z detects 24GB of ram installed.
Things I've tried doing:
1. Update the BIOS and it didn't seem to work.
2. I tried to check if the ram was in any way damaged so i attached it to my brothers laptop and it was working fine and detected by his laptop
3. Putting the new ram in the factory RAM's slot and computer wouldn't boot. Also tried turning on the laptop with the new attached in the vacant RAM slot and it also wouldn't boot.
4. Also tried placing the new RAM in the factory one's place and the factory ram to the second slot and it wouldn't boot
I've reached a slump and any sort of information or help would really help me.

Hi stzywrld.
Are you sure you bought HyperX RAM? I haven't seen Hyperx for years. Kingston has rebranded the Hyperx gaming section as Kingston Fury. If you did find Hyperx 16GB RAM, it comes in two versions: HX432S20IB/16 and HX432S20IB2/16. The first module is a dual-rank module, and the second is a single-rank 1Rx8 module. However, I'm pretty sure that you're actually referring to its replacement, the KF432S20IB/16 Kingston Fury Impact. As far as I know, there was no dual-rank version of this module. Depending on the type of HP system you have (you didn't mention it) there are two potential issues with this gaming RAM. The first is the RAM's timings. If you take a look at any of the PDFs I've linked to, you'll see that they have a JEDEC profile of 20-22-22 instead of the standard 22-22-22. That means that they're slightly faster than normal RAM. Usually, on recent HP laptops, this small deviation from the JEDEC standard is overlooked, but as I said above I don't know what system you're working with. The second possible problem (unless you've actually gotten hold of one of the early HX432S20IB/16 2Rx8 modules) is that this RAM is single-rank. Single-rank and with aggressive timings. HP laptops often have problems with this setup.
Unfortunately, as one of the more experienced EXPERTS on this forum often repeats, there is absolutely NO WAY to make an incompatible RAM module compatible. You have to return it and find one that is compatible. Normal -non gaming- RAM is your best bet......
Post back if you have more questions!

Hi, thank you for the reply! Please forgive me if i gave the wrong information as I am not really tech savvy!
Here are some additional information about my laptop and the RAM:
1. The system type is x64-based PC I believe.
2. Yes, im positive that i have the hyperX RAM. I checked and i currently have the HX432S20IB/16.
Follow-up questions:
1. Is there any way I could check if ive gotten a hold of an early HX433S20IB/16? If so, how do i check it?
2. If it really is incompatible, as an expert what brand should I go for?

Hello again!
Don't thank me yet and nothing to forgive.
Additional information:
1) Unfortunately x64 is not what we're looking for.
2) HX432S20IB/16 is the older dual rank version, more compatible than the later single rank one which is HX432S20IB2/16.
Follow up questions:
1) Look at previous answer 2. This is what you actually have. Surprised you found it, but it is.
2) It really is incompatible judging by your first post. If it were compatible you would never have started this thread...... Unfortunately I can't tell you what you should go for unless I know more about your system.
This is a free utility that one of our senior Experts has uploaded on the HP servers. When you run it there will be an initial summary page with your laptop model and the RAM modules installed on your system, among other things. Take a screenshot and upload it when you find the time.
