Hi @IAMMeo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The Compaq Presario CQ45-706TU Notebook PC is an older laptop model, and it might not have the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) boot option in the BIOS. UEFI became more common in newer systems, and older systems often use the traditional BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).

If you're not seeing UEFI options in the BIOS setup, it's likely because your laptop uses the older BIOS firmware rather than UEFI. In such cases, you won't have the option to enable UEFI booting.

Here are some general steps to access the BIOS settings on older laptops like the Compaq Presario CQ45-706TU:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Turn it back on and immediately start pressing a specific key or key combination to access the BIOS. Common keys for entering the BIOS on older laptops include F1, F2, F10, or the Delete key. Try pressing one of these keys repeatedly during the boot process until you see the BIOS screen.
  • Once you are in the BIOS, look for options related to boot settings. In older BIOS interfaces, you may find options like "Boot Order," "Boot Sequence," or "Boot Priority."
  • Use the appropriate keys (usually listed at the bottom of the BIOS screen) to navigate and modify the boot order. You can set the primary boot device to your desired option (e.g., the hard drive or CD/DVD drive).
  • Save your changes and exit the BIOS. Typically, you can save changes by pressing a key like F10, and then confirm the action.

Remember that UEFI and BIOS settings can vary depending on the laptop model and manufacturer, so the exact steps and options may differ slightly.

If you need to install an operating system that requires UEFI boot and your laptop only supports BIOS, you may need to use a legacy bootable media or consider upgrading your laptop to a newer model that supports UEFI if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
