I had my pc sent to hp support 2 months ago, the only thing they did was just replacing the battery. 

While playing games, the FPS count just suddenly drops to 4-10 from 50 bands. As soon as this happens, my gpu usage jumps up to 100% from 80s and this goes for 5mins minimum, and when i unplug and plug my computer again it just fixes itself but repeats the same issue again after 20-30 mins

 

I've gone through all the updates so please don't give me any ideas about how to upgrade my BIOS system or anything, I am in fact sure how to boot up the pc and upgrade BIOS and do all the necessary things by hand, these all have been done for 5-6 times already. I just want to get this done with.

It sounds like you're experiencing FPS drops on your HP Victus 16-d1 gaming laptop, which could be due to power management settings or thermal throttling. Here are some steps to help address the problem:

Check Power Management Settings

  • Ensure your laptop is plugged in while gaming. Gaming laptops often reduce performance on battery to conserve energy and prevent overheating.
  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel:
    • Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings.
    • Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.

Optimize Windows Power Mode

  • Set Windows Power Mode to Best Performance:
    • Search for "Power Mode" in Windows settings and adjust it accordingly.

Monitor Thermal Throttling

  • High GPU usage spikes and FPS drops often indicate overheating. Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check temperatures during gameplay.
  • If overheating occurs:
    • Clean your laptop's vents and fans.
    • Consider using a cooling pad to improve airflow.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Ensure your NVIDIA drivers are up-to-date:
    • Right-click on the desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Check for Updates.

Adjust Game Settings

  • Lower demanding settings such as shadows, reflections, and lighting in games.
  • Reduce the resolution or refresh rate if necessary to improve performance.

Close Background Processes

  • Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to close unnecessary applications that might be consuming resources.

Test After Unplugging/Replugging

  • The fact that unplugging and replugging temporarily resolves the issue suggests a potential hardware or power delivery problem:
    • Check if the power adapter is functioning properly.
    • Ensure you're using the original charger provided by HP.

Disable Battery Boost (if applicable)

  • Some gaming laptops have a feature called Battery Boost that limits GPU performance to conserve battery life. Check your NVIDIA or AMD control panel settings and disable this feature if it's enabled.

BIOS Update

  • Consider updating the BIOS, as this can sometimes resolve performance issues. You can check for updates through the HP Support Assistant.
