Hello, I bought a Victus 16 laptop in November 2024. Now I wanted to switch the video card from integrated to discrete. I tried to do this through the omen gaming hub, but it didn't work. I tried through the bios, but there was a black screen. I go to the device manager and it shows code 43. How can I switch?

Hi @wdgwhc

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying it all out—that kind of clarity makes troubleshooting so much easier. And yeah, seeing a black screen or that dreaded Code 43 when you're just trying to switch GPUs is seriously frustrating.

Let's get your Victus 16 back in action! 🎮💻

🔍 What Code 43 Means

Code 43 in Device Manager usually indicates that Windows has stopped the device due to a problem. In your case, it’s likely the discrete GPU (dGPU) isn’t initializing properly—either because of a driver conflict, a recent update, or a BIOS setting that didn’t go through cleanly.

🛠️ Steps to Fix and Switch to dGPU

1. Clean Reinstall GPU Drivers

Let’s start fresh with the graphics drivers.

  • Download the latest NVIDIA driver for your Victus 16 from the official driver page.
  • Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to remove all existing NVIDIA and Intel GPU drivers.
  • Reboot and install the freshly downloaded NVIDIA driver.
  • Restart again and check Device Manager—Code 43 should be gone.

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

A mismatch between BIOS and GPU firmware can cause black screens or detection issues.

  • Visit the Victus 16 support page.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update and Intel chipset drivers.
  • Restart and try switching GPUs again via OMEN Gaming Hub.

3. Enable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS

If you previously disabled hybrid graphics, it might be causing the black screen.

  • Reboot and enter BIOS (Esc or F10 repeatedly).
  • Look for Graphics Configuration or Switchable Graphics.
  • Set it to Hybrid or Auto.
  • Save and exit.

If the screen goes black again, hold the power button to force shutdown, then boot into Safe Mode and reset BIOS settings.

4. Use OMEN Gaming Hub (Post-Fix)

Once drivers and BIOS are sorted:

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
  • Go to Graphics Control.
  • Select Discrete GPU for performance mode.

Let me know how far you get with these steps.  You’ve got this—and I’ve got your back! 💪
