Hello everyone.

I have a HPOMEN by HP 15-ax230tx with Windows 11 64bit
I'm writing to you about a very serious issue that happened to me. I opened my laptop to clean the fans, and once I closed it, I could hear fan noises when I turned it on. So I decided to open the laptop again to see if I'd reassembled it incorrectly, and as I was screwing the last screw back in, it fell out of my screwdriver and landed on the side of the fans, causing a small spark. I closed the case, and from that moment on, the laptop wouldn't turn on, nor would the charging LED. I don't smell anything burning, nor do I see anything burning. What do you think could have happened? Do you think it could be fixed? Maybe something went wrong?

Hi @Fabio97-1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for providing detailed information. I'm sorry you're going through this — I know how discouraging it can be when your laptop suddenly stops powering on after maintenance, especially when everything seemed to be going fine.

Let’s break this down based on what happened and walk through what may have gone wrong, what’s likely damaged, and what can be done next.

Power Cycle the Laptop

  1. Disconnect the Laptop from Power: Unplug the charger from the laptop.
  2. Remove the Battery: If your model allows, remove the battery from the laptop.
  3. Hold the Power Button: Hold the power button for about 30-45 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  4. Reconnect: Reinstall the battery and plug the charger back into the laptop.
  5. Try to Power On: Attempt to power the laptop back on.

Inspect for Damage

  1. Open the Laptop Again: Carefully open the laptop and inspect the area where the spark occurred. Look for any burnt areas or damaged components.
  2. Check Connections: Ensure all cables and connectors are securely attached and there are no loose screws or foreign objects inside the laptop.

If the laptop still doesn't turn on and there is no response from the charging LED, it might have sustained some damage from the incident. It would be advisable to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

They might be able to diagnose any component-level issues or suggest repairs if necessary.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
