I have HP Envy laptop. The charger connector has 3 pins. I understand that the center pin is a “sense” pin that identifies the charger as compatible with the laptop, is that true?

What is your machine ? Normally the connector is round and the pin in the middle is for communications. Which pins do you talking about ?

Regards.

The laptop is a HP Envy 17-s143cl. The charger connector is concentric, the outer conductor is ground, the inner (middle) is supply (19v) and the center pin is the communication. I have two chargers, both with the concentric configuration, one with smaller connector, which works to charge the laptop, the other has a larger connector which does not fit. They are both for HP laptops. My question is; are these connectors available for purchase? What are they called? If I do purchase a smaller one, and replace it on the second charger, will it communicate properly?
