I have a HP14s-fq0022na and wanted to fit an NVME as there is a hardware slot but in spite of loading the latest bios the slot could not be seen from bios. Automatic upgrade to Windows 11 has swamped the eMMC chip (60GB) leaving little room to manoeuvre. An NVME would have been an ideal solution. I can't understand how HP would future proof the laptop with the M2 slot yet not offer the firmware to enable it.

That is very helpful information, thanks. It is no use my fitting a secondary drive as the primary has been crippled by Windows 11. My neighbour, whose laptop I was trying to upgrade, has decided that she will get a more modern laptop. I put in a lot of interesting attempts and non are lost and good experience very much including your help and advice, Resistencia, so thank you. I also have an HP laptop so have great confidence in the UK community. Thank you.

Hi @Keefideels
Does not support M.2 NVMe drives; must be M.2 SATA-3.

Thank you for picking up on that Resistencia, the M2 Sata iii has a different slot (2 notches) as opposed to the NVME I ordered so not sure if it would fit. I expected the latest bios to show the slot as a option but no sign of the slot in the bios. Perhaps I am miissing an additional firmware download. Otherwise the Laptop , having only an eMMC chip of 60 GB was easily swamped when Windows 11, seemingly uncommanded overwrote Windows 10 and swamped the storage, hence the need for the M2 slot use.. If you can see where I am going wrong, please advise.

There is no separate M.2 slot for M.2 SATA or NVME drives; they use the same slot. The difference is that with an M.2 SATA drive, one pin remains in the air without making contact with the slot.
Now, when you install the drive, it cannot be used as the primary drive; it must be secondary, and in Windows settings, you can only change the videos, data, and new programs you install to be on the secondary M.2 SATA drive.
