@DEDE40, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue where your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop (16-s0000 series) keeps turning the screen and keyboard lights on and off while gaming. That definitely sounds frustrating, but I’m here to help you troubleshoot and resolve it.
Perform a Hard Reset
Sometimes, residual electrical charge can cause erratic behavior.
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn the laptop back on.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated BIOS or graphics drivers can cause display and lighting issues.
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Use HP Support Assistant or manually download the latest:
- BIOS
- Graphics drivers (NVIDIA/AMD)
- Chipset drivers
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
To check for hardware issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the System Test and Graphics Test.
Check Power and Performance Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Set the plan to High Performance.
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Under Display and PCI Express > Link State Power Management, set to Off.
Disable Adaptive Brightness and Keyboard Lighting Effects
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Brightness and disable Change brightness automatically.
- For keyboard lighting, check the OMEN Gaming Hub or HP Command Center for any lighting effects that may be causing flickering.
Test in Safe Mode or Clean Boot
This helps identify if third-party software is interfering.
- Boot into Safe Mode and test.
- Or perform a Clean Boot: How to perform a clean boot in Windows
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
