Hi @MKz204,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with the touchpad on your HP Envy 16 laptop, it could be due to either driver-related problems or hardware issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Ensure there are no physical obstructions or damage to the touchpad.
  • Make sure your hands are clean and dry when using the touchpad, as moisture and debris can affect its performance.

Clean the Touchpad:

  • Gently clean the touchpad surface with a microfiber cloth to remove any dust, smudges, or debris.

Update Touchpad Drivers:

  • Go to the HP support website and locate the drivers and software section for your specific laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest touchpad drivers for your laptop.
  • After installation, restart your laptop to apply the changes.

Adjust Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to your laptop's settings or control panel and locate the touchpad settings.
  • Adjust the sensitivity, scrolling, and other settings to your preference.

Try Safe Mode:

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode (press F8 or Shift+F8 during startup) to check if the touchpad works in this mode. If it does, it may indicate a third-party software conflict.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, an OS update can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

Roll Back Driver Updates (if the issue started after a driver update):

  • If the problem began after a driver update, you can try rolling back to the previous driver version. To do this, go to "Device Manager," right-click on the touchpad, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and choose "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Test in Another User Account:

  • Create a new user account on your laptop and test the touchpad in that account. If it works in the new account, it may indicate a user-specific software issue.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with your touchpad or its connection to the motherboard.

Remember to back up your important data before making any significant changes or attempting hardware diagnostics to avoid data loss

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
