I have an EliteBook 850 G3 with a keyboard issue. It seems to act like the FN key mode is stuck in place and only various keys will type. I have seen this issue before and it somehow fixed itself. The system works fine with an external keyboard, but not the built in keyboard. Anyone seen this? Is there a keystroke fix or is it hardware related? i.e. bad connection or something?

If it works OK with an external then the problem is the built-in keyboard.
U.S. Keyboards:
Keyboard, no backlight for HP EliteBook 850 821194-001
Keyboard, backlit for HP EliteBook 850 821195-001
Assuming you have (or would like) a backlit keyboard here is one to buy:
