I have an HP Envy 17t S0000 laptop. I would like to replace the 2terabite hard drive with a solid state hard drive to make the performance quicker. Is there a slot for it or do I have to put it in the slot that the one I have is in now? Also what size a brand is recommended for this laptop?

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
The details listed on my previous post are the recommendations from HP as an SSD hasn't been tested for your model as off now,
That said, if an SSD upgrade is what you need, you may always get the size of drive you are interested in and replace it with the current drive, the only issue that may occur is installing the OS into the new drive, the reason for that is: The HP Recovery Media that contains the OEM (factory shipped) OS is encrypted to work with the factory shipped hardware, any changes to the hardware may not guarantee an installation,
If that doesn't work, you could use a retail copy of the windows, however, that's not recommended or supported by HP either,
So, it's your call as the owner of the device.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand you want to upgrade the HDD to an SSD,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you check your user guide or service manual to check the details?
(Click here to view, if you haven't)
That said, here a few things you need to know:
I've listed below the parts tested and approved by HP:

Thank you for your responce. The hp 17T is a computer I purchased from Costco. I looked in the original box and I didn't receive any kind of manual for this computer. It came with some setup instructions but no kind of manual. I looked at the link you sent me but that manual is quite different than the computer I have. My product number is P4B21AV. It has a 2 terabyte hard drive. I don't know if this is a single 2 terabyte drive or 2 different 1 terabyte drives. If is 2 different 1 terabyte drives then I would probably like to take out the primary drive and replace it with a solid state drive and leave the secondary for storage of movies, pictures, and such. If it is a single 2 terabyte hard drive then I would like to install a solid state drive if there is a slot available. I don't know what kind of configuration I have without taking the computer apart. I don't want to without some kind of guidence from you. If you could let me know what exactly I have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
I appreciate the product number you've provided, that said, I did have a check and there's another user/maintenance guide for your PC:
Click here to view it and here's the list of storage devices supported for your model:
Hard drive Support for 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses
Accelerometer / HDD protection support
Single hard drive configurations:
● 2 TB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
● 1 TB, 7400-rpm, 9.5-mm
● 1 TB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
Hybrid hard drive configuration
● 1 TB, 5400-rpm,
Basically you seem to have one hard drive with 2TB and I'm afraid there are no SSD slots available on your PC,
The alternate option to expand the storage is by getting an external hard drive and attach it via USB.
Let me know if those steps worked for you,
If they did, that's awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck
