@chris-gon, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Fingerprint Scanner Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Update your drivers:

  • Make sure your Windows and HP drivers are up to date. You can do this by running Windows Update and using the HP Support Assistant, which can automatically check and install the latest updates for your system.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Look for "Biometric Devices" and expand the section.
  • Right-click on the fingerprint device listed there and select "Update Driver."
  • If it's not listed, check if there are any unknown devices or any with a yellow exclamation mark, which might indicate a driver issue.

Reinstall Fingerprint Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the fingerprint device and select "Uninstall Device."
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver.

Check Windows Services:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Find "Windows Biometric Service" and ensure it is running. If not, right-click and select "Start."

Set up Fingerprint Again:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Sign-in options."
  • Remove the current fingerprint settings and set it up again.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
  • Select "Hardware and Devices" and run the troubleshooter.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
